Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Traffic, Cancels Ferries in Sweden

Published: 2024-01-15

SMHI, Sweden's meteorological and hydrological institute, has issued a yellow warning for heavy snowfall across southern and middle parts of the country, including Gotland and the central Baltic Sea, lasting from Sunday night to Monday evening.

The warning indicates that up to 15 centimeters of snow could fall locally, leading to potential traffic disruptions due to limited road visibility and snow drifts.

The harsh weather conditions have resulted in the cancellation of all ferry services to and from Gotland, except for one morning departure.

Motorists are advised to reconsider their travel plans and wait for roads to be cleared and prepared.

Weather conditions are not expected to be as disruptive as a snowstorm last week, which resulted in the closure of the E22 motorway for over a day.
