Kalmar city council member Jonathan Sager has been expelled from the Sweden Democrats, effective immediately, a decision made by the party's executive committee.

This follows a proposal from the membership committee, citing reasons of "harsh rhetoric and personal attacks" as partial justification for the expulsion.

Prior to this, Sager had been suspended due to a personnel matter within the party.

The expulsion comes after Sager's involvement in controversial statements, including opposition to a storytime event for children featuring drag queens at a local library in 2022. Distric chairman Martin Kirchberg stated that details of the membership issues are internal and would not be elaborated upon, but confirmed that Sager agreed to resign from his political duties in the municipality if expelled.
