Sweden Donates Combat Boats to Ukraine

Published: 2024-02-21

Sweden has taken a significant step in support of Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict by donating ten Stridsbåt 90 combat boats, as part of a record military aid package valued over 7 billion SEK.

This move, aimed at bolstering Ukraine's coastal defense and protecting vital grain exports through the Black Sea, marks Sweden's first-time contribution of combat boats to the country.

The Stridsbåt 90, known for its high speed and agility, is equipped to carry up to 18 fully geared soldiers and is relatively lightly armed, typically with machine guns.

The initiative also includes training for 18,200 Ukrainian soldiers, further cementing Sweden's commitment to Ukraine's long-term military support.

Despite concerns that this support may temporarily impact Sweden's own military capabilities, Swedish officials emphasize the importance of investing in Ukraine's defense as an investment in global security and stability.

The latest aid package includes a wide range of military support, from underwater weapons to soldier equipment, marking a monumental effort from Sweden to aid Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression.
