In a bid to enhance public safety, Stockholm and Skurup are witnessing a significant increase in surveillance cameras.
Stockholm is set to install 40 new cameras, a joint effort between the police and the city, aimed at saving lives, according to regional police chief Mattias Andersson.
Meanwhile, in Skurup, cameras are being strategically placed in high-crime areas, with temporary installations where immediate surveillance is needed.
The police in southern Sweden have reported success in solving various crimes, from murders to thefts, thanks to these cameras.
The number of surveillance cameras in Sweden has surged from 712 in 2021 to over 2,500 this year.
However, Andreas Schönström, a local official in Malmö, emphasizes the need for a balanced approach, combining surveillance with social interventions to effectively combat crime.
