Snowy New Year Challenges Sweden

Published: 2024-12-30

Sweden is bracing for a snowy and challenging New Year’s Eve as weather conditions vary across the country.

SMHI has issued yellow warnings for up to 15 cm of snow in parts of Svealand, including Stockholm, with risks of traffic disruptions due to icy roads and poor visibility.

In southern regions, snow may turn to rain, while northern Norrland offers the best chance for clear skies to enjoy fireworks.

Temperatures in the far north could drop to -20°C, while milder weather is expected in Götaland.

Meteorologists caution that snowfall and low clouds could obscure midnight celebrations in many areas.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution as slippery roads and snowdrifts may cause accidents.
