A man in his 30s was shot by police in Skultuna, just outside Västerås, after a threatening situation arose near a playground.

The incident occurred around 10:30 AM on Wednesday, leading authorities to cordon off the area.

The man was hospitalized with severe injuries but is in stable condition, according to Region Västmanland.

Police have indicated that the situation involved a mental health issue.

Police spokesperson Pelle Vamstad stated that officers were compelled to use their firearms when confronted with the threat.
