Henrik Landerholm, Sweden's former national security advisor, is under investigation for alleged negligence involving classified documents.
The incident occurred in 2023 when sensitive materials were reportedly left behind at a conference center.
Landerholm, who was a close aide to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, has already been cleared in an internal employer investigation.
However, Säpo, Sweden's security police, plans to interrogate him soon and formally notify him of the charges.
His lawyer, Johan Eriksson, has confirmed the upcoming legal proceedings.
The case raises concerns about the handling of classified information at the highest levels of government.
