An explosion occurred at the entrance to a multi-family house in Mjölby early Saturday morning, leading to the arrest of a man in his mid-40s suspected of endangering public safety.

The blast took place in the staircase of the building around 3:15 AM, causing smoke and a subsequent fire, which has been extinguished.

Approximately 80 residents, who were advised to stay inside their apartments, did not need to be evacuated despite the devastation in the staircase and debris outside.

A preliminary investigation for endangering public safety has been initiated.

No injuries have been reported in the incident.
