Published: 2024-07-11

Sweden is experiencing an intense thunderstorm with 19,000 lightning strikes recorded in just three hours.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) reports that the storm is spreading across the country, affecting areas from southwestern Skåne to southern Värmland.

Large hailstones, described as 'gunfire from the sky' by residents, have damaged property in some areas.

SMHI meteorologist Linus Karlsson warns the public to stay alert and avoid unnecessary risks when outdoors.

The severe weather, including heavy rain and thunderstorms, is expected to continue into the evening, fascinating some while causing concern for others.
