A sudden and intense thunderstorm struck the Stockholm area on Thursday evening, resulting in a lightning strike at a football field on Lidingö.
The incident occurred during a youth football practice, where several teenagers were gathered under a tree when the lightning hit.
Eight individuals were rushed to the hospital, with three reported to be in serious condition.
Emergency services responded promptly, with ambulances and rescue teams arriving at the scene to provide medical assistance.
The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) recorded approximately 900 lightning strikes in the Stockholm area within an hour, highlighting the severity of the storm.
In response to the incident, Lidingö municipality has activated its crisis support group to assist those affected.
