The United States government has officially classified the Nordic Resistance Movement (NMR), a Nazi organization, as a terrorist group.
Three NMR leaders—Fredrik Vejdeland, Pär Öberg, and Robert Eklund—have also been designated as global terrorists.
This classification follows reports of attempted or executed terrorist acts threatening U.
S. national security.
Sweden’s Foreign Minister Tobias Billström and Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer expressed serious concerns, highlighting increased dialogue on extremism at the EU level.
Terrorism expert Hans Brun noted that such designations reflect American security needs and efforts to mitigate extremist connections between the U.
S. and Europe.
