In a significant escalation in the Baltic region, Ukraine has reportedly attacked a Russian warship near Sweden, marking a first in the vicinity.

According to Ukraine's military intelligence service, the assault inflicted severe damage on the Serpukhov, a Russian corvette, setting it ablaze and completely destroying its communication systems.

The incident, confirmed by Ukrainian media and military sources, occurred off the coast of Kaliningrad in the Baltic Sea.

This move intensifies Ukraine's offensive against Russian naval assets, following a series of successful attacks on Russia's Black Sea fleet.
