A massive fire broke out at a waste facility near Gottåsa in Alvesta municipality, prompting authorities to issue a public warning (VMA) due to toxic smoke spreading towards Vislanda.

The fire, covering an area of 100 by 100 meters, began around midnight and continues to burn.

Residents in the area have been urged to stay indoors and seal their homes to avoid exposure to the hazardous smoke.

Firefighters are working to contain the blaze by covering it with sand, but the cause of the fire remains unknown.

This marks the fourth fire at the facility since 2018, with the most recent incident occurring in September 2024. No injuries have been reported, and officials are monitoring the situation closely as they await daylight to reassess the smoke's impact.
