Voter turnout in Sweden's EU election dropped to 50.7%, down from 55.3% in 2019, marking a deviation from the rising trend observed in recent elections.
Preliminary data from the Election Authority suggests the final turnout may reach approximately 53%, still slightly above the EU average of 51%.
Noteworthy is that Mora was the only municipality where voter participation increased, attributed to a simultaneous local referendum.
Highest turnout was seen in affluent areas like Lomma, while the lowest was in Dorotea.
This decrease is partly due to demographic shifts, including lower participation among new citizens with non-European backgrounds.
