Swedish Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard refuted media claims about the costs associated with the EU's new migration pact, stating it would not involve billions but rather a maximum of 180 million SEK annually.
During a seminar, she emphasized the pact's principle that countries take responsibility for migrants arriving on their soil, with provisions for crisis situations allowing for shared responsibility or financial contributions to avoid taking in asylum seekers.
Stenergard highlighted that in a crisis, Sweden would be responsible for up to 900 asylum seekers, underscoring the manageability within the Migration Agency's budget and the strength of the new regulatory framework.
