In an effort to combat domestic violence and organized crime, the Swedish government has introduced legislation making it easier for landlords to evict criminals and enabling victims of domestic abuse to take over rental contracts.
The new law, announced by Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer and Minister for Gender Equality Paulina Brandberg, aims to address the critical issue of housing as a barrier to leaving violent relationships.
This measure comes in response to a perceived increase in insecurity and violence within residential areas, impacting citizens' freedom and privacy.
Critics, however, question the potential for misuse by landlords and the adequacy of existing judicial procedures to protect tenants' rights.
