Sweden has introduced a new law making it easier to evict criminal tenants, effective from July 1st.
This change aims to increase safety in neighborhoods by allowing landlords to evict tenants involved in serious crimes, regardless of where the crime occurred.
Housing companies welcome the law, believing it closes a legal loophole, while tenant associations worry it may unfairly punish innocent family members.
Sofia Gärdsfors of Störningsjouren in Gothenburg and Linn Bernhardsson, a legal expert at Stockholmshem, both support the law but acknowledge concerns about its potential impact on families.
Critics argue it could lead to the eviction of entire families if one member is involved in crime, prompting mixed reactions across the community.
