Sweden Boosts Air Force with Long-Range Missile

Published: 2025-02-24

Sweden is upgrading its air force by equipping its Jas Gripen fighter jets with the Taurus cruise missile, capable of striking targets over 500 kilometers away.

This marks the first time Sweden has acquired such a long-range attack capability, significantly enhancing its offensive reach.

The missile, developed by Germany's MBDA and Saab Bofors Dynamics, can target bunkers, radar stations, and other strategic sites deep behind enemy lines.

Former Air Force Chief Mats Helgesson highlighted its importance, noting that adversaries already possess similar weapons.

The Taurus will be operational by 2028, with integration into both the current Gripen C and the future Gripen E models.

This development aligns with Sweden's defense strategy to strengthen its long-range capabilities.
