Sweden has announced a historic defense investment, marking the largest military expansion since the Cold War.
The government, in collaboration with the Sweden Democrats, plans to allocate 300 billion SEK over the next decade to strengthen its military.
This move aims to support Ukraine, bolster Sweden's defense, and align with NATO's anticipated spending targets of 3-4% of GDP.
Sweden has set a goal of reaching 3.5% by 2030. The funding will be loan-based, with an initial 25 billion SEK allocated this year for urgent purchases like air defense and drones.
Experts highlight the urgency of this decision, given Europe's need to reduce reliance on U.
S. defense support and the growing threats from Russia.
While the 300 billion SEK figure is significant, analysts suggest it could rise depending on NATO's final requirements.
