Sweden has taken a significant step forward in its NATO engagement by announcing its first mission as a member of the alliance.
The country plans to contribute to NATO's deterrence efforts with both aircraft, including Jas Gripen jets for air surveillance in the Baltic Sea area, and naval forces, focusing on mine clearance in the Baltic Sea.
Furthermore, by the end of the year, Sweden will dispatch a mechanized battalion of 450-550 soldiers to Latvia, under Canadian command, to rotate with Danish forces every six months.
From the outset, Sweden will also integrate into NATO's air defense and missile systems, emphasizing their commitment to the alliance's collective security.
