A severe fire broke out in a multi-family building in Vimmerby early Thursday morning, leading to the arrest of one individual on suspicion of arson.

The alarm was raised just before 6 AM, and firefighters battled the flames well into the morning.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, although one person was taken to the hospital.

The building was completely damaged, and all residents were evacuated safely.

Police have confirmed that the incident is being investigated as a suspected case of aggravated arson.

Efforts to locate several cats believed to be in the apartments are ongoing.
