Stockholm City Council has decided to implement a class 3 environmental zone in central Stockholm by December 31, banning petrol and diesel vehicles to make the city center emission-free by 2030. This initiative, the first of its kind globally, faces opposition from the Moderate Party, citing a rushed decision and lack of infrastructure for electric vehicles.
The environmental zone, limited by major city streets, aims to increase electrification and is supported by ample charging infrastructure, according to proponents.
However, the Moderate Party proposes alternative solutions like a ring road and incentives for electric vehicles through congestion taxes.
