Stockholm has announced a ban on flights for its city employees to Gothenburg and Malmö.
This policy affects 40,000 workers, who are now encouraged to use digital meeting solutions or take trains and public transport for necessary travel within Sweden and Europe.
Exceptions require approval from the highest administrative level and impose a 50% surcharge on flight costs, with surplus funds allocated for urban tree planting.
The move contrasts with the national government's recent decision to reduce air travel taxes, which aims to boost passenger numbers and support the aviation industry.
Åsa Lindhagen (MP), Stockholm's Councilor for Environment and Climate, emphasizes that this measure is intended to reduce emissions and reshape travel norms.
