Snowstorm Hits Sweden, Thousands Without Power

Published: 2024-04-02

Parts of southern and central Sweden are bracing for significant snowfall and strong winds, following warnings from the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI).

The institute has issued several yellow and orange alerts, indicating potential for up to 30 centimeters of snow in some areas.

As the weather system moved in, nearly 14,000 households were left without electricity.

Authorities advise against driving on summer tires and caution that the severe weather could disrupt traffic, including delays and cancellations in public transportation.

The snowstorm is expected to move eastward, affecting areas like Öland and Gotland with yellow warnings.
