Rise in Wolf Attacks Sparks Fear

Published: 2024-07-02

The growing wolf population in southern Sweden is causing concerns among residents of Tjällmo, Östergötland, following a series of recent wolf attacks.

Local horse farm owner Maria Sundén Joge worries for her smallest horses, keeping them indoors at night after an attack near her paddock.

Another resident, Marie Danielsson, lost her sheep in a similar incident.

Thomas Ekberg from the Swedish Hunters Association explains that the wolves are getting closer to human settlements as they lack fear of people and natural habitats in the region.

Meanwhile, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has raised the minimum wolf population in the southern management area from five to seventy-five, aligning with a governmental aim to disperse wolves across the country.
