A 55-year-old man from Kalix, Sweden has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife.

The man stabbed his wife 39 times with a kitchen knife in their home, leading to her death.

The motive behind the brutal act remains unclear, however, the court found that he became angry over things his wife had said to him just before the attack.

The couple had no prior history of violence or threats.

In addition to life imprisonment, the man has been ordered to pay approximately 500,000 Swedish Krona in damages to the deceased woman's family and will be deported upon completion of his sentence.
