A 55-year-old man, Hamid Fatlawi, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife, Maria Fatlawi, in their home in a village outside Kalix, Sweden.
The murder, which occurred in August, involved Fatlawi stabbing his wife 39 times with a kitchen knife while she was in bed.
The court found no clear motive for the man's actions, other than his anger over something his wife had said shortly before he killed her.
Despite the violence of the crime, there was no evidence of previous threats or violence in the relationship, and Fatlawi stated during his trial that he 'did not want to kill her'.
In addition to his prison sentence, Fatlawi is also to be deported and ordered to pay over 500,000 kronor in compensation to his wife's relatives.
