Liberals Push to Ban Foreign School Owners

Published: 2025-03-23

The Swedish Liberal Party (L) has announced a significant policy shift, advocating for a ban on all foreign ownership of private schools in Sweden.

This proposal, unveiled during the party's national meeting in Karlstad, includes owners from EU countries, marking a stricter stance than previous government investigations.

Party leader Johan Pehrson emphasized concerns over foreign influence in the education system, describing it as a potential arena for external interference.

Pehrson also admitted past mistakes in relying on private solutions for schools and youth crime treatment, calling for greater state involvement.

Around 500 party members gathered to discuss this self-critical policy overhaul, signaling a new direction for the Liberals.
