Iréne Svenonius, a prominent figure within the Moderate Party and long-time political leader in Stockholm, has announced her departure from politics to assume a new role as the director-general at the National Property Board of Sweden.
Her political journey, marked by leadership in both good times and challenges, includes serving as the Finance Commissioner for the Stockholm region and previously as the City Director of Stockholm.
The Moderate Party has confirmed that Svenonius is leaving her positions immediately, including her role as group leader, a position she held for seven years.
The transition comes after the Moderate Party, under her leadership, lost the 2022 election, moving her to the role of opposition regional councillor.
Max Elger, former Social Democratic Minister for Financial Markets, has been appointed as the new director-general of the agency.
