Moderates Form Majority with Social Democrats in Kronoberg

Published: 2024-04-08

In a surprising political move in Region Kronoberg, the Moderate Party has announced a majority government with the Social Democrats, nominating Henrietta Modig Serrate (S) as the new chair of the regional council.

This decision has sparked outrage among former alliance partners, the Centre Party and the Christian Democrats, who accuse the Moderates of betraying the alliance and its voters by negotiating "under the covers.

" The announcement was made with short notice, leaving the allies informed just half an hour before the press.

Additionally, Erik Wångmar, a political scientist, suggests this marks a generational shift in the region's governance, emphasizing the dominant role the Social Democrats are expected to play in this new arrangement.
