The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has concluded that while a new connection across the Öresund Strait is needed in the long term, it is not necessary at the moment.
Current railway capacity over the Öresund Bridge is sufficient for the next 25 years.
Before considering new projects, they recommend building additional railway tracks between Hässleholm and Lund, and increasing capacity north of Hässleholm.
The greatest immediate obstacle is border controls on the Swedish side.
Thus, expanding capacity over the strait can wait.
