The Swedish government has announced the commencement of the Sydostlänken railway project between 2027 and 2029. This new rail link will connect Älmhult, Olofström, and the Blekinge coastal line, enhancing both freight and passenger transport.
The project has been in discussion for 30 years and involves building a new railway between Olofström and the Blekinge coastal line, as well as electrifying the line between Älmhult and Olofström.
This decision also includes the green light for major infrastructure projects in Bergslagen and Västerbotten.
Local leaders in Blekinge have welcomed the news with optimism for the region's future.
