Sweden's Infrastructure Woes Linked to Decades of Miscalculations

Published: 2024-05-03

A report developed within Sweden's Transport Administration, Trafikverket, and highlighted by Sydsvenskan, reveals that Sweden's infrastructure policy has been marred by calculation errors and incorrect forecasts for nearly 30 years.

The mistakes have led to today's railway capacity issues, stemming from underestimations in the 1990s of the growth in train travel.

These errors resulted in significantly delayed investments in the railway sector.

Meanwhile, projections overestimated the expansion of car and air travel, further skewing transportation policies and priorities.
