Denmark's Prince Frederik X has been crowned as the King, succeeding his mother Queen Margrethe II who signed her abdication at 2:15 PM.

King Frederik X delivered an emotional inaugural speech, which was followed by a royal kiss.

The transition was celebrated with a massive public festival, expected to be attended by 150,000 people.

The new king's wife has now become Queen Mary, and their eldest son, Christian, is the new Crown Prince.

A notable detail from the coronation is the Shamballa bracelet King Frederik X wore, interpreted by the palace commentator Jim Lyngvild as a sign of the king's belief in a higher existence.
