In a historic moment for Denmark, Queen Margrethe II is abdicating the throne after 52 years of reign, with her son, Crown Prince Frederik, set to take over as King Frederik X.
The Danish monarchy remains strong, with recent surveys showing that 78% of Danes believe in the monarchy, a significant increase from a decade ago.
The transition of power will be marked by a ceremony at Christiansborg Castle in Copenhagen, without the usual coronation.
This marks the first time in over 900 years that a Danish monarch has abdicated.
The ceremony will involve the Queen signing a document of abdication, followed by the Prime Minister proclaiming Frederik as king.
Despite the abdication, Queen Margrethe will retain her royal title and residence.
