In a tragic elevator accident in Sundbyberg, near Stockholm, five people lost their lives when a construction elevator plunged 20 meters.

Initial investigations revealed that bolts were missing in part of the elevator mast.

ABC Bygghissar, the company that installed the elevator, has been criticized for this and has been barred from continuing work on the construction site by the main contractor, Andersson Company.

The elevator manufacturer, Alimak, confirmed that two mast sections of the elevator were not bolted together, a significant deviation from the installation instructions.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
