Early on the morning of May 27th last year, an Arlanda Express train derailed while traveling at 178 kilometers per hour, injuring two people, one seriously.
The Swedish Accident Investigation Authority has released a report detailing that a welding fault and fatigue cracks in a railway switch caused the accident.
Both the train and the track sustained extensive damage, affecting several hundred meters of rail.
Following the incident, all trains to Arlanda were suspended for the day and the rest of the weekend.
The authority recommends companies involved, A-train AB and Vossloh Switch Systems AB, address potential deficiencies in railway switches and welds to prevent future accidents.
