The Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO) has ordered the immediate closure of the Långanäs youth home in Eksjö after reports of severe mistreatment by staff.
An employee under investigation for breaking a girl's arm had previously faced charges for aggravated assault.
Both children and youth have allegedly been subjected to serious abuse, including strangulation and physical injury.
Current leadership at Långanäs argues for further investigation to determine the exact circumstances.
The troubled facility is not expected to reopen soon.
