Swedish Youths in Danish Crime Wave

Published: 2024-08-26

Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer recently met with his Danish counterpart, Peter Hummelgaard, in Copenhagen to address the alarming involvement of Swedish youths in Danish gang conflicts.

Since April, 25 incidents have been reported where young Swedes were hired for criminal activities in Denmark, particularly in drug-related disputes.

The Danish police have been able to track these activities using advanced surveillance technologies, leading to several arrests.

Despite the tension, both countries are now focusing on collaborative efforts to tackle the issue, including pressuring tech companies to curb online recruitment by gangs.

Danish sociologist Aydin Soei emphasizes the importance of preventive measures alongside stricter penalties, highlighting Denmark's success in reducing gang membership through community collaboration.
