Swedish Teens Recruited in Danish Gang Wars

Published: 2024-08-19

The escalating gang violence in Denmark has taken a disturbing turn, with Swedish teenagers being recruited as hitmen in a bloody drug conflict.

This alarming trend is partly attributed to the Danish ban on the gang Loyal to Familia, which has led to a shortage of local recruits.

Danish sociologist Aydin Soei highlights that the recruitment of Swedish youths is a strategic move by Danish gangs, as they face increased police scrutiny and harsher penalties.

The situation has prompted Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard to express his anger over the cross-border recruitment, while Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer plans to address the issue in an upcoming meeting in Copenhagen.

The recruitment often occurs through social media, where vulnerable youths are lured by the allure of gang life, despite the severe consequences they face under Danish law.

This cross-border gang crisis underscores the need for collaborative efforts between Scandinavian countries to tackle the root causes of youth involvement in organized crime.
