Inger Harlevi, a top local Moderate Party politician on Gotland, Sweden, has resigned as chair of the regional council following a travel expense scandal.
An investigation by P4 Gotland revealed that Harlevi had spent nearly 200,000 kronor on travel over two years, often disregarding regional policies.
She used a non-contracted travel agency and took trips outside her official duties, including a controversial journey to Crete against the regional board's decision.
The Moderate Party's local leader, Andreas Unger, called her actions 'unacceptable.
' Region Gotland's director, Stefan Hollmark, announced a review of travel procedures in response to the incident.
