There are increasing reports of Swedish citizens being incarcerated in Iran, a situation that has raised significant concerns.
One of the detainees, a Swedish man in his 20s from Svealand, was arrested at the start of January in Iran.
The purpose for his arrest remains unclear as the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UD) has refrained from commenting further on the issue due to consular secrecy.
In a similar case, Swedish EU diplomat Johan Floderus, who was captured during a vacation in Iran in April 2022, has been accused of espionage.
His trial resumed recently after he had spent more than 630 days in custody.
Sources claim that the detainees are subjected to harsh conditions in prison, including constant lighting in their cells and the absence of beds or bunks.
The UD confirms they are working tirelessly to secure the release of the detainees.
The circumstances surrounding these detentions are reportedly linked to the sentence of Iranian citizen Hamid Noury to life imprisonment in Sweden, which has supposedly strained the relationship between the two countries.
