In a bid to tackle Sweden's reading crisis, the government has unveiled a comprehensive reading list for schools, curated by Skolverket and Kulturrådet.
The list, presented on Monday, includes 250 literary works ranging from classics like Astrid Lindgren's "Bröderna Lejonhjärta" to contemporary pieces such as Annie Ernaux's "Omständigheter" and Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel "Persepolis.
" This initiative aims to reignite the reading interest among Swedish students, from preschool to high school.
Education Minister Lotta Edholm emphasized the importance of this list in enhancing the role of literature in education.
The list was developed with input from literary experts and educators, ensuring a diverse selection of both Swedish and international works.
