Region Östergötland in Sweden has announced a layoff of 900 employees, citing severe economic challenges.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson commented on the situation, attributing the region's financial woes mainly to long-standing economic issues, rather than temporary effects of inflation.
He praised the region's decision to exempt doctors and nurses from the cutbacks as wise, emphasizing the government's commitment to avoid general reductions in healthcare staff.
Kristersson also stressed the importance of regions managing their finances effectively and highlighted ongoing efforts to mitigate inflation and its impacts on regional economies.
