In a recent survey conducted by SVT, amidst widespread concerns of a healthcare crisis, only two of Sweden's 21 regions, Östergötland and Skåne, indicated plans to lay off healthcare workers.
Despite warnings from political parties about significant layoffs, the survey reveals that the majority of regions aim to avoid such measures, focusing instead on reducing the cost of temporary staff.
Östergötland has formally announced layoffs affecting a broad range of healthcare workers, excluding doctors and nurses, while Skåne is considering a reduction of 50 nursing assistants at Helsingborg Hospital.
Other regions, like Dalarna, are exploring alternative solutions due to a dire need for healthcare personnel, aiming to mitigate the potential impact on patient wait times and accessibility.
