Sweden is on the brink of joining NATO after months of delays, with the process now in its final hours.
The last hurdle was cleared when Hungary, the last country needed to ratify Sweden's application, approved the membership, signaling that the official membership could happen as soon as today.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Foreign Minister Tobias Billström have landed in Washington for formal proceedings, including handing over accession documents to U.
S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Hungary's ratification documents are also expected to be deposited in Washington.
This development marks a significant shift for Sweden, moving from a position of military neutrality to becoming a full member of the NATO alliance.
