Sweden's Pensions Agency has uncovered significant cases of pension fraud involving individuals living abroad.
A recent investigation revealed that some recipients received incorrect payments for over a decade.
In one case, an 84-year-old woman who moved back to her home country continued to collect Swedish pension benefits, amounting to 180,000 kronor.
The agency has since filed a police report and demanded repayment.
Minister Anna Tenje has called for improved population registration to prevent such errors.
New rules introduced in January 2023 aim to tighten oversight of pension benefits for those living outside Sweden.
Officials stress the importance of reporting changes in residency to avoid misuse of taxpayer funds.
