Sweden is set to approve the controversial Chat Control law, which allows the state to scan private online communications.
This compromise proposal by Belgium seeks to monitor digital messages to combat child abuse by scanning encrypted chats before they are sent.
Initially dismissed due to privacy concerns, the revised proposal gained support in Sweden's Justice Committee despite initial opposition in EU campaigns.
With only the Centre Party and Sweden Democrats opposed, the proposal now progresses to the EU Council of Ministers for further negotiations with the European Parliament.
