Internal disagreements within Sweden's Green Party (MP) regarding a controversial EU proposal for "chat control" have come to light.
Leaked chats reveal that Rasmus Ling, MP's representative on the Justice Committee, expressed support for the proposal, despite the party's official stance against mass surveillance.
Criticism has also been directed at Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer, who supported a Belgian compromise on the proposal, leading to backlash from youth wings of the Moderates and Liberals, who campaigned against it.
The proposal, intended to combat child abuse online, faces stiff resistance over privacy concerns, with critics arguing it infringes on personal freedoms by allowing extensive monitoring of private communications in the EU.
