Sweden's Parliament's Justice Committee has endorsed the controversial EU proposal known as 'chat control 2.0', aimed at combating child exploitation online.
The proposal requires internet messaging services to scan all content for signs of child abuse and grooming, raising concerns about mass surveillance and privacy rights.
Despite opposition and mistakes in registering dissent by the Green Party (MP) and Left Party (V), the proposal will now proceed to the EU Council for further deliberation.
Critics argue it infringes on fundamental rights, while supporters prioritize child safety.
The final decision rests with EU ambassadors and later negotiations with the EU Parliament.
